Ajman: The body of a fisherman who drowned in rough seas while on a fishing trip has been found and sent to a hospital for autopsy.

The Search and Rescue team of the Ajman Civil Defence found the fisherman's body on Friday. The man's age was 21, police said.

Lieutenant Saleem Al Za’abi, director of customer service at Ajman Civil Defence Department told Gulf News that the operation room received a call at 7:30 pm from another fisherman saying that an Asian fisherman had drowned in the swell not far from the coastal area where the fish market was located.

The drowned man’s friends and colleagues rushed to the spot where he apparently went missing but could not locate him.

Rescuers from various departments including the coast guard and four professional divers working with Ajman Civil Defence responded to the situation and rushed to the scene.

The search mission was carried out amid rough seas. The meteorology department had earlier issued a warning to the public not to venture into the sea due to prevailing bad weather.

Lt Al Zaabi urged the public as well as fishermen to heed warnings issued by the weather bureau in their own interests.

The sea has been rough in the past few days and, on Saturday, some coastal roads were inundated with sea water.
