Sharjah: Fire hit a building in Sharjah Industrial Area 10 on Wednesday.
Thick black smoke could be seen for several kilometres, as drivers in the area hit traffic on their way home.
Sharjah Civil Defence told Gulf News an emergency call was received at 7pm.
“The fire gutted 8 warehouses but it's not clear what kind of materials are inside the gutted warehouse due to the strong flames," the official said.
"We were able to control the fire within three hours."
The fast response of the civil defence team prevented the fire from moving to adjacent warehouses, the official added.
Teams were dispatched from Samnan station and the Sharjah Civil Defence headquarters, in Sajja and Muwaileh, to control the fire.
After the fire was contained, additional teams were dispatched to help in the cooling process.
There are no reports of any casualties or injuries so far.
