Abu Dhabi: A fire that broke out at a workers’ accommodation and a warehouse in Al Musaffah Industrial Area in the capital on Tuesday was extinguished by the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi, head of the customer service and public relations department at the Civil Defence, revealed that the fire completely engulfed the workers’ accommodation consisting of 14 rooms, and reduced the warehouse to ashes. Another warehouse was partially burned but firefighters managed to put out the flames before they spread any further.

Al Tamimi added that it took around three hours to extinguish the fire in an extensive operation supervised by Lt Col Hamad Al Riyami, director of Civil Defence centres in the capital, and First Lieutenant Mohammad Khoury, the officer on duty at the time. “Evidence was sent to the forensic laboratory to determine the causes of the blaze and investigations are still under way to determine the circumstances of the fire,” Al Tamimi said.

The official urged warehouse supervisors and workers to implement the necessary preventive safety measures, provide hand-held and mobile extinguishers on location, avoid storing flammable materials and make sure they stub out cigarettes properly. He also underscored the importance of ensuring electrical wiring is in good condition and to avoid loading transformers, especially with the onset of summer and soaring temperatures.
