Dubai: A fire erupted at an under-construction building in Palm Jumeirah on Thursday.

Dubai Civil Defence spokesperson said they received a call about thick smoke billowing from a 24-storey building in Palm Jumeirah.

Thick smoke filled the basement of the building when firefighters arrived at the scene.

“It was a moderate fire and nobody was injured. Firefighters controlled the fire by 11:14am and the cooling down process is on,” said Dubai Civil Defence spokesperson.

Firefighters from Al Marsa and Al Barsha stations took part in the operation.

Dubai media office tweeted : “Dubai Civil Defence successfully controls a minor fire on a construction site in Palm Jumeirah in 20 minutes; no casualties reported.”

It is unclear what caused the fire.

Omniyat, the developers of the prestigious residential development on Palm Jumeirah, put into action their emergency procedure and Dubai Civil Defence brought the fire under control within 20 minutes.

Omniyat today thanked Dubai Civil Defence for their swift response.
