Colombo: An Emirates A380 plane with more than 500 people on board had to make an emergency landing in Sri Lanka on Friday.

The aircraft was en route to Dubai from Sydney when it was diverted to Colombo.

An Emirates spokesperson said, “Emirates flight EK413 from Sydney to Dubai on 25th June was diverted to Colombo due to a technical fault. The aircraft landed safely at Bandaranaike International Airport and passengers were transferred to other Emirates flights. Emirates apologises for any inconvenience. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance.”

Emirates carried out its first A380 landing in Colombo in 2012.
