Dubai: Dubai Police Search and Rescue teams rescued three motorists who were trapped in their vehicles in major accidents, Police said on Wednesday.

Lt Col Ahmad Atiq Burqibah, deputy director of the Search and Rescue Department at the General Directorate of Transport and Rescue at Dubai Police, said the first accident happened on Meydan road on Tuesday evening when a 20-year-old motorist from a Gulf nation crashed into a lamppost at high speed and was seriously injured and trapped inside the car, “It was a major accident and it was hard to extract him from the car. We used hydraulic cutters to cut the doors and rescued the driver and transferred him to hospital with serious injuries,” Lt Col Burqibah said.

The second accident happened at 4:45pm on Al Khail Road when two trucks crashed into an empty bus. The seriously injured bus driver was stuck in his cabin and Dubai Police rescued him before airlifting him to hospital.

Meanwhile, a car crashed into another in Al Muhaisna area and the driver was trapped inside his car before rescue teams managed to extricate him and take him to hospital with moderate injuries.

Dubai Police used latest tools to cut the vehicles and rescue the trapped people in the three incidents, “We managed to rescue the injured drivers in less than 30 minutes. We are ready to deal with any emergency accidents around the clock. People’s lives are important to Dubai Police and we try to reach the accident site in less time as the time factor is important in deadly accidents,” Lt Col Burqibah said.

According to Dubai Police, 160 traffic accidents were reported between 12 midnight and 8am on Tuesday because of the unstable weather.

The Dubai Police Command and Control Unit revealed that it received more than 1,423 emergency calls during the same period.
