Dubai: Dubai Police caught a family man who was wanted in several financial cases but then helped him when they saw the dire straits his family was in.

For two years, the family of the Emirati man had been living in debt and battling diseases.

Brigadier Mohammad Al Murr, director of the Human Rights Department at Dubai Police, said the man was experiencing heart problems. His wife was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

“The wife’s daughter from a former marriage was living with them and illegally in the country as her father had refused to renew her passport. The family of four members had been living in a difficult situation in a hotel apartment for two years and had many debts,” Brigadier Al Murr said.

Dubai Police reached the man in his 50s after many financial complaints were lodged against him and when they saw his situation, they referred him to the human rights department for help.

“The man was having heart problems and his wife was sick also. Her daughter had diabetes and her foot was amputated. The family had several debts and we decided to help them,” he said.

Dubai Police contacted a relative of the man who promised to solve the financial cases and contacted Mohammad Bin Rashid Charity to arrange the pending rent of the hotel apartment.

Lieutenant-Colonel Saeed Abdul Munem, head of the Human Services Section, said the family wanted to go to Lebanon as the wife owned a house there. Police provided tickets to the family to go to Lebanon.

“We sorted out the fees with the immigration as the man’s wife and her daughter from the earlier were staying illegally in the country. We contacted the Lebanese Consulate to issue visas for them. We even paid off their debt to the grocery store as the bill ran into thousands of dirhams,” Lt-Col Abdul Munem said.

The family members underwent check-ups and treatment at the Dubai Police’s health centre and have been given medicines.

“Soon, they will all travel to Lebanon as per their wish. Till two weeks before, the family had been living in misery but we supported them and found a solution to end their bad situation.”
