Dubai: A group of Dubai friends were expected to return home from nepal late on Tuesday night, a family member posted online.

Thanzeem Rawther, a sister of one of the six Indian friends, posted they were poised to return to Dubai from the Nepalese capital Kathmandu on a flydubai flight.

She had earlier said the first contact with the group — all men in their 20s — was made on Tuesday morning after they lost touch following Saturday’s quake.

The friends had landed in Nepal on Friday to holiday at The Last Resort adventure destination 100km from Kathmandu.

On Tuesday, they managed to make calls saying they were safe in a village several miles from the resort, Rawther said.

They then travelled by road to Kathmandu so they could catch a flight back, which was schedule to arrive late Tuesday night.

None of the friends were reported to be hurt, but Rawther said online her brother Thanweer told her there were only biscuits to eat for days.

The death toll from Saturday’s 7.8-magnitude quake had crossed over 5,000 by Tuesday evening and is expected to rise dramatically as more bodies are found.
