Sharjah: An Egyptian truck driver was killed and another injured in a collision between two trucks on Al Dhaid-Masafi Road early on Thursday, Sharjah Police said.

Colonel Ahmad Bin Darwish, Director of Sharjah’s Central Region Police, said the police operation room received a call at around 4.45am on Thursday informing them of an accident involving two trucks that burst into flames due to the impact of the collision.

Police and civil defence teams and municipality workers sped to the accident site and put out the flames on the two vehicles before clearing the road for traffic.

Col. Bin Darwish said one driver aged 31 was killed on the spot while the other sustained moderate injuries and was transferred to hospital.

He said not paying attention to road conditions and not leaving sufficient distance, especially between trucks, was the main cause of such accidents.

Col. Bin Darwish urged motorists to abide by traffic rules and speed limits to avoid accidents.
