Sharjah: Six workers have suffered serious injuries after a crane collapsed on them at a construction site in Sharjah on Monday afternoon, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.
Construction company employees who were at the site were summoned by police for questioning to piece together the moments leading up to the tragic workplace accident.
The Sharjah Police have also detained a number of officials of the company following the tragic incident that took place on Monday afternoon in Muwaileh area of Sharjah.
Police operations room received a call saying that six Asian workers were seriously injured after crane collapsed on them.
Police patrol paramedics moved to the spot and shifted the injured workers to Al Qassimi Hospital.
An official at Al Qassimi hospital told Gulf News that the hospital received five Asian workers. They have been given the necessary treatment and one of them admitted to the ICU for his serious condition.
Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the civil defence were call to the scene to remove the wreckage of the collapsed crane.
Police are urging the engineers and construction workers to ensure that all safety procedures are in place at their work sites in order to avoid similar accidents.
