Abu Dhabi: Three people died while eight others suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out in an Airport Road building on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out on the third floor of a nine-storey building opposite the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority in the Gulf Beauty Salon building.

Police reports confirmed that the victims died due to the flames and not the resulting smoke.

Investigations are ongoing to find out the cause of the fire.

Reports have also revealed that the fire which took place at around 4:20pm had spread to other apartments.

However, Civil Defence teams were able to stop it from spreading even further and had evacuated the building out of precaution.
