Dubai: Police reported a total of eight accidents, which led to seven injuries, in Dubai between the first day of Ramadan, Thursday, and Sunday.
Police officials said three accidents occurred in Bur Dubai, three in Al Muraqqabat, one in Al Rashidiya and one in Al Ghusais. Six men and a woman were involved in the accidents. No serious injuries or deaths resulted from the accidents. Police reports said five of the injuries were minor, while two were moderate.
Last year, Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said accidents are most likely to occur in the three hours before iftar. “People tend to drive more aggressively between 4pm and 7pm,” he had told Gulf News.
According to Dubai Police statistics, during Ramadan in 2013 there were 15 deaths and 156 injuries in 166 accidents involving 203 vehicles. Between 4pm and 7pm there were 28 accidents in which one person died and 27 were injured.
In 2012, there were 11 deaths and 185 injuries in 190 accidents involving 360 vehicles during Ramadan. Between 4pm and 7pm there were 40 accidents in which four people died and 43 were injured.
Dubai Police urged motorists to abide by traffic laws and avoid speeding and reckless driving, even if it means missing the start of iftar.
