Dubai: Motorists across the UAE can enjoy 50 per cent discount on traffic fines announced by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, as part of the UAE’s 46th National Day celebrations.

On Sunday, Dubai Police tweeted that traffic fines registered between January 1, 2017 to December 2, 2017 are eligible for the discount.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Traffic Department at Dubai Police, told Gulf News that the police are working to recalibrate all payment channels so that motorists can avail of the new discount.

“We are working to change all the payment machines and online channels to apply the 50 per cent discount. By Monday morning, motorists can enjoy the discount,” Brigadier Al Mazroui said.

He said the discount is valid for 90 days.

“We hope motorists take advantage of this gesture to pay their traffic fines and settle their outstanding dues. It is a chance for them and came from generous gesture by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed to make people happy and enjoy the celebrations of the 46th National Day,” Brigadier Al Mazroui added.

Last month, Dubai Police had also announced a 50 per cent discount on fines registered in 2016, if they are paid before the end of 2017.

Similarly, Abu Dhabi Police announced a reduction in fines for traffic offences and for confiscated vehicles by 50 per cent for the period between August 1, 2016 and December 1, 2017.

Motorists can pay the reduced fines from December 2 and this offer will be valid for 60 days.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, police departments in Sharjah and the other Northern Emirates confirmed to Gulf News that the motorists in the respective emirates will be able to avail of the discount.

In these emirates, the reduction will be on fines incurred before December 2, 2017, and the discounted fines have to be paid within three months.

Sharjah also has an ongoing 50 per cent discount programme which began on October 19 and was scheduled to end on December 31. With this announcement of nationwide fine reduction scheme, the offer will now be extended.
