Fujairah: A 22-year-old Emirati man died and two other youngsters were hurt in a road accident in Fujairah on Friday afternoon, police said on Sunday.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Saeed Al Hassani, director of Media and Public Relations Department in Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that the police operations room received a call on Friday at around 4.15pm reporting the accident on Masafi Road near the Friday market.

The accident took place when a truck, driven by a 43-year-old Asian man identified as M.W., entered the road after taking a U-turn without making sure that the road was clear.

As a result, the vehicle of the victim collided with the truck. The victim was in his four-wheel drive with two Emirati friends.

The 22-year-old Emirati driver died on the spot and he has been identified as R.S.M. His Emirati friend, R.G.R., 20, is in critical condition and has been transferred to Khalifa Hospital in Abu Dhabi. The other friend, F.G.R., 18, sustained moderate injuries and has been transferred to Fujairah Hospital. The victim was buried on Saturday in Al Seiji cemetery.

Lt Col Al Hassani said the truck driver, who was arrested, caused the accident as he did not ensue that the road was clear before entering it. He was taken into police custody for interrogation.
