Hargeisa: The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KBZF) inaugurated the largest concrete dam in Sudan. The dam will supply the city of Hargeisa and its neighbouring areas with water for irrigation purposes, as well as allow them to store water so that it can be used during the dry season.

The inauguration of the dam is in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the follow up of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of KBZF.

The inauguration of the dam, coincides with the Year of Giving and the ‘For You Somalia’ campaign, which was launched by Shaikh Khalifa to help the people of Somalia during the harsh living conditions they are currently facing.

An official source at KBZF pointed out that the dam took 13 months to build. The 11-metre high dam has an estimated capacity of 350,000 cubic metres. It will help save around 650,000 gallons of water daily during the dry season in the Hargeisa area.
