Manama: The head of the music section at Tunisia TV is facing disciplinary action after the national station broadcasted a song praising the country's ousted leader.

The gaffe happened on Saturday evening as the station was transmitting a religious programme on Eid Al Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice.

The song, composed during the rule of Zine Al Abidine Bin Ali, included a religious segment and praise for the former president. The singer distinctly prayed for Bin Ali's long life and success.

Scorn

Viewers poured scorn on the TV station and its lack of competence and professionalism while social networks Twitter and Facebook, particularly popular among Tunisia's youth, were very active leveling criticism on the management of the national state-owned TV.

Four senior officials were replaced following the incident.

Bin Ali was ousted from power in January in a popular movement that sparked waves of protests in several other Arab countries and resulted in the toppling of the leaders of Egypt and Libya.
