Manama: Tunisia has recalled its ambassador from Syria 'for consultations', the official news agency, TAP, said. The decision was taken by the Tunisian government in light of the dangerous developments in Syria, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry told the news agency on Wednesday.

On August 7, Saudi Arabia summoned its ambassador in Damascus, and fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members Kuwait and Bahrain recalled their top diplomats the next day.

GCC member Qatar pulled its ambassador in July after its embassy in the Syrian capital was attacked on July 11. A Qatari official later said that Syria apologised for the attack, reportedly carried out in retaliation for the perceived bias in the news coverage by the Doha-based Al Jazeera.

Last week, Tunisia urged all parties in Syria to shun violence and to engage in a dialogue that will address the country’s worst crisis in modern history.
