Khartoum: Sudanese police say a stampede among crowds of people attending a military graduation ceremony has killed 17 people and injured three dozen others.
Police say most of the dead in Sunday's stampede were women and children. It was not clear what caused the crowds to rush toward the gates of the Al Merriekh Stadium in Omdurman, the twin city of Sudan's capital, Khartoum.
Police said on Monday that 36 people were injured in the stampede and were taken to Omdurman Hospital. Most of them left the hospital after receiving treatment.
