Ramallah: Families and clans in Hebron have burnt the car of an alleged drug dealer. They said that the move was a warning and they would kill the man if he continued his activities.

Sources in Hebron told Gulf News that while the dealer’s car was destroyed in the southern part of the city of Hebron, his life was spared. Nonetheless, further measures would be taken if the dealer resumes his trade.

The Hebron sources said that legal gaps and bail procedures usually give criminals the room to escape punishment and return to their activities. They maintain that this drug dealer has been known in the local community to target youths. The sources said this dealer had been arrested repeatedly but that lawyers and legal loopholes had spared him punishment. The families felt they had no choice but to take action.

The sources said that the dealer had been warned several times to stop his activities and the families had also sought the intervention of his family without success.

The sources said several people from various families in Hebron had taken part in pouring petrol on his car and setting it alight. A source at Hebron Governorate said that the families and clans in the city do not have the right to act as they did. He stressed that people cannot take the law into their own hands. The spokesman added that the Hebron Governor who represents Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will handle the case.
