Nablus: A Palestinian teenager wounded when the Israeli army fired live ammunition at a group of protesters three days ago died of his injuries on Monday, medical and security sources said.

Hassan Ashur, 14, was shot in the abdomen by Israeli soldiers in Beit Furik, near the occupied northern West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian sources told AFP.

Ashur’s health rapidly deteriorated over the weekend, and he died on Monday morning in hospital.

Palestinians have staged regular protests in the West Bank since Israel began its Gaza assault on July 8, and troops have responded in many cases with live fire, according to Palestinian security officials.

At least 20 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank since the start of the Gaza operation, according to UN figures.
