Syrian envoy calls for end to 'state of war' with Israel
The Syrian ambassador to the US has called to end the "state of war" with Israel on Monday, weeks after the commencement of peace talks.
Occupied Jerusalem: The Syrian ambassador to the US has called to end the “state of war'' with Israel on Monday, weeks after the commencement of peace talks.
Imad Mustafa said in an interview that they choose to recognise the two individual states, and will try to end the current disagreement between the two.
However, a peace agreement would mean the withdrawal of Israel from the Golan Heights, which the Jewish state had occupied in the 1967 war.
Mustafa's remarks followed close to Syrian President Bashar Al Assad's decision, of forming normal relations with Israel, two weeks ago. This decision included opening of embassies.
Israel has demanded the end of Syria's association with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, the Palestinian Hamas movement and other armed groups that have added to the Jewish state's demise.
