Hebron: Palestinian security officials say Israeli troops killed a top Hamas fighter in the occupied West Bank town of Hebron early on Sunday.
Israeli troops surrounded the house of of Shihab Al Natsheh in Hebron and bulldozed it hours later when he refused to surrender. His body was removed from the rubble.
Palestinian security officials identify Al Natsheh as a 25-year-old fighter from Hamas. They say he was wanted by Israeli forces.
Israel and Hamas are observing a cease-fire in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. But the agreement does not apply in the West Bank, ruled by moderate President Mahmoud Abbas.
Israeli troops continue to target Palestinian fighters in the territory, despite objections from Abbas that such actions embarrass him and undermine his control.
