Palestinians feel Arab Summit is futile

People here are convinced that the Arab summit cannot do so much for them

Gaza: For years, Arab leaders have been saying the Palestinian cause is their top prioriy, but the Palestinians feel the opposite.

People in Gaza did not care much about the Arab summit in Libya as much as they cared for the Israeli limited invasion which killed 2 Israeli soldiers in the last 24 hours.

Gazans feel such summits and meetings in the last 60 years had not done any good for the Palestinians and the Palestinian cause.

Mohammad Al Ashkar, a 43-year-old  Palestinian, said: “Since I was born Arabs are meeting but nothing good had come out of these meetings. Our land has been stolen, and we have no rights since then."

People here are convinced that the Arab summit cannot do so much for them, he said.

“The peace process is frozen;  Israeli is attacking the Palestinians in Gaza Strip and West Bank, and recently the Israeli government offensive on the holy places in occupied Jerusalem hurt the Muslim feelings around the world,” he added.

The government in Gaza too is not optimistic about summit.

In an interview with Gulf News Dr. Zead Al Zaza, vice-prime minister in Gaza government, said, “no summit has produced real results. This summit too cannot break the siege on the Palestine people in Gaza, cannot support the Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem and cannot make any extra effort to defend Jerusalem and the holy Christian and Muslim places that the Israel occupation is trying to defile and add them to its fake history .”

However, “we hope that the Arab summit will end with real results, not just statements that sound strong. We need real results that will break the siege on Gaza and protect the holy places in occupied Jerusalem,” he said
