Manama: A student at the Palestinian School in Doha has urged US President Barack Obama not to veto the Palestine bid for full membership of the United Nations.
In an open letter addressed to the US president, Rand Yahya Al Agha reminded Obama of his speech at Cairo University where he pledged to work out a fundamental solution for the Palestinian issue by the end of his first term in office.
She urged him not to use the right to veto against the interests and freedom of the Palestinian people to favour Israel, Qatari daily Gulf Times reported on Sunday.
Rand urged the US leader, in the name of the Palestinian children living abroad and those living in the occupied territories, to support their cause.
Detailing the plight of her compatriots under the Israeli forces, she wrote that they were determined to get a good education despite the daily challenges.
It is time that America recognised the state of Palestine that is established on institutions, liberties and an independent judiciary system, she wrote.
In the letter, Rand argued that the US fought for the right of the state of South Sudan to exist, and should also support the right of the Palestinians t have their own state.
The student wrote that the children of Palestine dreamt of peace, but were haunted by forces of occupation.
The Palestinians who currently have a United Nations "observer" status have been talking about seeking a UN recognition of their state and full membership of the UN.
