Palestinian family forced to destroy their home
Palestinian family in Occupied East Jerusalem have until Friday to clear the rubble from their house which they were forced to destroy with their own hands
Ramallah: A Palestinian family in Occupied East Jerusalem have until Friday to clear the rubble from their house which they were forced to destroy with their own hands.
The Al Abbasi family, destroyed their house a few days ago after the Jerusalem Municipality said the building did not have the proper permits and said the family would be slapped with fines and possible prison time if they did not clear the house by January 10.
The family managed to secure an extension but alas they destroyed their own home after enlisting help from family members.
The land which the house was constructed on is owned by 82-year-old Eissa Moussa Al Abbasi. His family and his brother's family live in the house.
Ten years ago Eissa's eldest son contructed a house to accomodate his family.
He made several attempts to secure a building permit from the Israeli authorities but was repeatedly rejected.
The case is one of hundreds of similar cases of Israeli restrictions and persecutions of Palestinians living in Occupied East Jerusalem, and part of a wider campaign to reduce the number of Palestinians in the holy city.
