Ramallah: Palestinian prisoners from occupied East Jerusalem and 1948 areas are ready to give up their Israeli identity cards and get Palestinian identity cards and passports and live in the Palestinian Territories in return for freedom.

In an official letter published by the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees’ Affairs, the inmates of Israeli jails said that they are willing to spend the remaining terms of their sentences in the Palestinian Territories and return to Israel or they are ready to give up their Israeli citizenships and live permanently in the Palestinian Territories in return for freedom.

Israel had refused to include any of the prisoners from occupied East Jerusalem and 1948 areas in any prisoner swap or release deal and has labelled them as criminals.

The prisoners expressed optimism about US President Barak Obama’s visit and hoped they would get a better deal.
