Olmert vows to recover captured soldier
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has promised to obtain a soldier that was captured by Gaza militants over two years ago.
Occupied Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has promised to obtain a soldier that was captured by Gaza militants over two years ago.
"We've promised the Shalit family to do everything to bring Gilad Shalit home alive and in good health as quickly as possible,'' Olmert told a weekly cabinet meeting.
In exchange for Shalit, who was captured in 2006, the Islamist Hamas movement has asked for the release of hundreds Palestinian prisoners.
Over the past two years, several letters written by Shalit were released by his captors, where he complained about his deteriorating health.
Olmert is to hold a series of talks with Defence Minister Ehud Barak to discuss Shalit's safe release.
