Ramallah: The Palestinian National Initiative urged Palestinians on Monday to counter the violence and crimes of the Israeli colonists by adopting non-violent resistance.

Dr Mustafa Al Barghouti, Secretary-General of the Initiative, said in an official statement that it is Palestinians who are in urgent need of security from the violence of the Israeli colonists and army.

"The innocent and unarmed Palestinians should stand up and confront the violence of the Israeli colonists and Israeli army," he said.

"The attacks of the Israeli colonists and army against the Palestinian public and their properties clearly show that there is no safety and security under the Israeli occupation," he said.

"Israel is taking advantage of the current international silence and exaggerates its attacks against the Palestinians. Attacks are carried out one time by the colonists and the other time by the army itself," he said.

"The only answer to the Israeli attacks and crimes against the Palestinians is total Palestinian involvement in non-violent public resistance covering all the Occupied Territories," he said.

"Everybody should immediately get involved in a boycott campaign against Israel as punishment for its crimes against the Palestinians," he said, adding that the current Israeli attacks should motivate the Palestinians to unite and build a new national strategy based on resistance.

"The international community should instantly act against the violent crimes of the Israeli colonists before it's too late," he said.

Meanwhile, during a lecture organised in Al Quds on Monday, Mahmoud Al Aloul, Member of the Fatah Central Committee, criticised the work of non-governmental organisations in the region.

He said these organisations spread suspicious ideas designed to serve the interests of the West. He added that failure to invest in the Arab world's natural resources had made a bad situation worse and initiated the revolutions and unrest in the region. "This is not the situation in the Occupied Territories," he said.

"The Palestinian position is fixed and unchanging that takes the opinions of the Palestinian public into consideration. There is no exaggeration whatsoever in the Palestinian actions and reactions," he said.

"The stalled negotiations have put the Palestinians in direct political confrontation with the Israelis and the Americans," he said.

"We will face all the challenges... and enhance the non-violent resistance," he said.
