Jordan king warns Israel about Gaza
Abdullah warns of “serious repercussions” on regional stability
The warning came in a telephone call between King Abdullah II and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It was the king’s first public comment on the clashes. It follows rare violent protests in Jordan over sharp price hikes, which developed into unprecedented calls for the king’s ouster.
Abdullah urged Netanyahu to bring about the “cessation of all forms of escalation to pave the way for regional and diplomatic efforts to achieve calm,” the statement said.
Jordan maintains cordial ties with Israel under a 1994 peace treaty.
The statement said Abdullah also made a call to Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi about Gaza.
