Israeli soldier jailed for delaying woman in labour
An Israeli soldier has been dismissed and sentenced to 14 days in jail for stopping a Palestinian woman in labour from passing through a checkpoint, the Israeli military said on Sunday.
Occupied Jerusalem: An Israeli soldier has been dismissed and sentenced to 14 days in jail for stopping a Palestinian woman in labour from passing through a checkpoint, the Israeli military said on Sunday.
The woman eventually gave birth to a stillborn baby. "The incident is one that could have been prevented," a military statement said.
The soldier prevented the woman and her husband from crossing into the Palestinian city of Nablus on September 4 from the Huwwara checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.
According to army regulations, exceptions should be made in urgent, humanitarian cases.
In its statement, the military said the woman was in labour on reaching the checkpoint but the couple did not have an entry permit for the vehicle.
