Israeli prison visit rule draws hunger strike call

Protest at being chained before relatives' visits

Last updated:

Ramallah: Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails will launch a hunger strike tomorrow in protest against an Israeli procedure under which they are handcuffed and their legs chained prior to visits by their families.

The strike call came after the mother of Palestinian woman prisoner Doa'a Zeyad Al Jayousi collapsed and lost consciousness after seeing her daughter in chains.

"The Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails might shortly announce disobedience against all the Israeli procedures in the prisons if current conditions are not addressed," Eisa Qaraqei, the Palestinian minister of detainees' affairs, told Gulf News.
