Tel Aviv: Syria must cut ties with groups like Hezbollah and Hamas and distance itself from Iran if wants to reach peace with Israel, the Jewish state said on Thursday.
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said :"Israel wants to live in peace with its neighbours but Syria also needs to understand that it needs also full renunciation of supporting terror - Hezbollah, Hamas and of course Iran."
These remarks come one day after both countries confirmed they were conducting indirect peace talks.
Livni called Syria's ties with Iran “problematic,'' a reference to the belief that the Islamic Republic supports Hezbollah and Hamas.
Israel's comments echo US demands that Syria severe ties from what it considers terrorist organisations.
