Ramallah: Othman Ebrahim Assad Younus, a Palestinian prisoner serving four life sentences in Jalboue Prison in Israel, says he was raped by two of his jailors while in solitary confinement.

Younus has yet to receive any treatment for injuries he sustained after being arrested by Israeli Special Forces.

Psychological therapy

His family said he needs braces for his legs and arms and he needs psychological therapy following his brutal experience.

In 1993, Younus became involved in the armed resistance against Israel after his father was killed when an Israeli colonist ran him over with his car, along with his sister and pregnant niece.

The motorist was never charged for the crime. Younus' mother said that her son didn't even get to see his father after he died as he was buried right away.

"This was a turning point in Othman's life," Sobhiyah Hamad told Gulf News.

He quickly turned up on Israel's most-wanted list after his involvement in killing four Israeli soldiers and planning 23 operations against Israelis.

Younus hid for more than a decade in different West Bank cities until his mother was admitted to the Rafidyah hospital for surgery and he insisted on visiting her.

Intensive care

Israeli forces raided the area and a gun battle erupted on the hospital roof, resulting in the death of two of Younus' friends while two others were seriously injured. Younus himself was seriously injured in the attack in his abdomen.

He was pronounced dead at the scene but after Israeli troops withdrew from the scene doctors realised he was still alive but in a coma.

After Younus spent four days in intensive care, the Israelis were tipped off that he was indeed alive. Some Israeli agents covering their faces and bringing fruit baskets were able to infiltrate the hospital and kidnap Younus along with hospital machines.

Since then he has received little or no medical attention for his injuries. In the first five years none of Younus' family were allowed to see him except for one annual visit from his eight-year-old sister.

Heartache: He had to forget his love

During Younus' ten years in hiding from Israeli forces he fell in love with his friend's sister Manal. She used to bring them basic supplies and foods.

His lifestyle made it nearly impossible to propose marriage to the girl. However, he loved her more than anything and decided to change his mind.

Before they could marry, however, Younus was arrested. Manal, under pressure from her family, got married to another man but after one year they divorced.

Since then, she has broken two engagements, announcing she will not marry for the rest of her life unless it is to Younus.
