Occupied Jerusalem: Scores of Fatah allies who fled to Israel from the Gaza Strip sought refuge in the West Bank on Monday after Israel decided they would face "immediate danger" from Gaza's Hamas rulers if they were returned home.
The men, members of a heavily armed Gaza clan allied with Fatah, were put on two civilian buses in the southern Israeli town of Beersheba on Monday afternoon, two days after fleeing a Hamas assault on their Gaza City neighbourhood.
Arrive in Jericho
The men, about 90 altogether, began arriving in Jericho on Monday afternoon. They will be housed at the Palestinian National Security headquarters in Jericho, Palestinian officials said.
More than 180 members of the Hilles clan escaped to Israel on Saturday. By yesterday afternoon, around 60 had returned to Gaza, and the rest were either hospitalised in Israel or being questioned by Israeli security forces.
