Rafah: Egypt the Rafah crossing into the Gaza Strip closed on Monday as Israeli air strikes continued into the Hamas-run territory, a security official said.
The official said that the crossing will only be opened to allow the wounded to enter.
Hamas said it sent eight wounded people to the crossing, but that the eight were unable to cross the border "because of firing by Palestinian elements", according to an Egyptian official statement.
Egypt accused Hamas on Sunday of preventing hundreds of Palestinians injured in the Israeli attacks from leaving the Gaza Strip although ambulances were waiting for them on the Egyptian side of the frontier.
Demonstrations have been held across the Middle East against the Israeli air raids, with many protestors also railing against Egypt for not opening its border with the Gaza Strip.
