London: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Sunday called the conflict in Gaza a "very dangerous moment" and urged a ceasefire between Israeli troops and Palestinians.

"This is a very dangerous moment. I think everybody round the world is expressing grave concern," Brown said in an interview on BBC television.

"What we've got to do almost immediately is work harder than we've done for an immediate ceasefire," he said.

Israeli troops continued to clash with Palestinian fighters in Gaza on Sunday as the death toll in the violence rose to more than 400.

"I can see the Gaza issues for the Palestinians—that they need humanitarian aid—but the Israelis must have some assurance that there are no rocket attacks coming into Israel," Brown said.
