Abbas, Olmert hold new round of Middle East talks
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met on Sunday for peace talks.
Occupied Jerusalem: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met on Sunday for peace talks.
Olmert's spokesman, Mark Regev, said the objective remains to press ahead with negotiations aimed at sealing a Palestinian-Israeli peace deal.
The two leaders were joined by Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Palestinian diplomat Ahmed Qorei.
Israeli public radio reported that Olmert is pressing for a "framework agreement" to be presented to Washington next month.
The talks were launched with the goal of reaching a comprehensive solution to the decades-old conflict by the time US President George W. Bush leaves office in 2009.
Core issues include the final borders of a Palestinian state, the future status of Occupied Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees and the future of Jewish settlements.
Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported that Olmert has presented Abbas with a proposal that would lay out framework principles on these core issues.
