Ramallah: Three staff members of a secondary school in Hebron were hospitalised after smelling the contents of a strange letter which arrived from Italy.

Palestinian security forces are investigating the mysterious letter although no explanation has been able to be reached as of yet.

After opening the letter, three staff members experienced excessive sneezing and dizziness.

Authorities believe the contents of the letter could be a virus although do not yet understand the motive.

As strange as the incident is, it is not an isolated one. It is in fact the third such instance of mysterious mail, including when the Hebron mayor Dawood Al Zaatari received a letter with similar content.

Another letter was designated for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The two letters were sent by a Zionist organisation based in New York City.

The letters contained a sticky material wrapped in aluminum foil.
