Ramallah: Israeli occupation forces have began a harassment campaign, targeting Palestinian Consumer Protection inspectors who are seizing illegal products that are being smuggled into Palestinian territories from Israeli colonies.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Finance ministry, the inspectors are being harassed by Israeli occupation forces who are aiding the illegal flow of products from colonies into the West Bank.

The harassment comes after an official boycott on products from Israeli companies has left the occupation with no choice but to bring the products in forcefully.

“The colonies have suffered serious losses due to the boycott,” a senior ministry official told Gulf News.

“Military involvement clearly shows that the Israeli regime has undergone serious financial losses,” the official added.

In 2010, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree stricly banning colony products into the Palestinian territorities. Heafty fines and prison terms for violators were put into place, in addition to the seizure of the smuggled products. The boycott has been met with overwhelming public support and a toll free line was introduced to help people report violators.
