Cairo: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister Saturday attended the Arab Peace Initiative Committee’s session held at the General Headquarters of the Arab League at the level of Foreign Ministers, to discuss the latest developments regarding the Palestinian issue and ways to address Israeli expansion plans in Occupied Jerusalem city and its transgressions on Al Haram Al Sharif.

The UAE delegation included Mohammad Bin Nahkhira Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to Arab League, Dr. Jassim Mohammad Al Khalofi, Director of the Department of Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ali Al Shamili, the official in charge of the Arab League at the UAE Embassy in Cairo.

The committee’s session was chaired by the Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and the Arab League Secretary-General, Dr. Nabil Al Arabi.

Ahmad Bin Heli, Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League, said the committee has been discussing ways to tackle Israeli aggression in Al Haram Al Sharif as well as its expansion plans in Occupied Jerusalem. It also discussed steps to back the Palestinian proposal to end the occupation in accordance with a timeframe through the United Nations Security Council. It will also discuss the EU’s stance regarding recognition of the Palestinian statehood.

He added in a statement before the session that the committee would submit a number of resolutions to the Arab Ministerial Council in its extraordinary meeting later today to take appropriate action.

The committee includes Kuwait as chairman with Palestine, the UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Yemen and the Sultanate of Oman as members.
