Rabat, Morocco: Morocco's interior minister says early legislative elections have been scheduled for Nov. 25.

The country's official MAP news agency on Tuesday reported Taieb Cherkaoui has announced the date. The elections had been expected in late 2012 but were pushed forward as part of democratic reforms spearheaded by King Mohammed VI.

The North African kingdom has seen frequent protests over the past months with demonstrators calling for new parliamentary elections and constitutional reforms.

Moroccans last month overwhelmingly approved a new constitution, a key pledge by the monarch amid a push for greater democracy across the Arab world.
