Sofia, Bulgaria: Lebanon’s prime minister asked the international community to understand his country’s position to not side with any of the parties involved in Syria’s civil war.
Najeeb Mikati told reporters on a visit to Sofia on Monday that Lebanon was firmly resolved not to take anyone’s side in Syria.
Mikati says “this has to do with our own stability and security so Lebanon is not in any way interfering in Syria’s internal affairs. We hope that the international community will understand Lebanon’s position in this extremely difficult and delicate moment.”
Last month’s assassination of a senior intelligence officer has stirred up tensions in Lebanon, and triggered demands by the opposition for the Hezbollah-dominated government to resign, accusing it of siding with Syria’s regime.
