Beirut: A legal dispute has led to Lebanon's only English-language newspaper, the Daily Star, to be banned from publication, journalists said on Wednesday.

The paper's offices were under lock and bolt since last week with a legal notice sealed with red wax, they said. It was unclear when the newspaper would republish.

The newspaper's website (www.dailystar.com.lb) has also not been updated since Jan. 14.

"We're doing our very best, to keep providing the product that we have historically provided, which is independent news and views," a senior source at the Daily Star said.

The reason for the closure have not been made public, but news of the credit problem began to leak after days of silence from its management.
