Jordan signs deal for civilian nuclear cooperation with France
Jordan has signed an accord on civilian nuclear cooperation with France, French President Nicolas Sarkozy's office announced.
Paris: Jordan has signed an accord on civilian nuclear cooperation with France, French President Nicolas Sarkozy's office announced.
The office said the deal will "reinforce and institutionalise" nuclear cooperation between the two countries.
Jordan's Atomic Energy Commission has also signed a deal French nuclear company Areva for uranium mining, The Jordan Times reported on Thursday.
The paper quoted the head of the Commission, Khalid Touqan, as saying the deal was signed during Jordanian King Abdullah's visit to France.
He said a final agreement will be signed in September. Areva will begin work on calculating the level of uranium in the country.
Sarkozy has said France would support Muslim nations seeking civilian nuclear technologies. Under Sarkozy, France has signed similar nuclear accords with Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, and the United Arab Emirates.
