US House speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Iraq
US House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Baghdad on Saturday for talks with US and Iraqi officials, the US embassy said.
Baghdad: US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi discussed security issues and Iraq's provincial election on her visit to Baghdad, officials said on Sunday.
Pelosi, a vocal critic of the US-led war in Iraq, visited Baghdad on Saturday and left after talks with Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki and other officials.
Pelosi had earlier said that she wanted much of the 158,000 US troops deployed in Iraq withdrawn by the end of this year.
Maliki's office said Pelosi promised "renewed US support" for his government and for "efforts to achieve security and stability and ensure national reconciliation in Iraq."
