Baghdad: Saddam Hussain was buried in a family plot in the early hours of Sunday morning in his home town of Ouja.
The executed former Iraqi leader was buried near the graves of his two sons, just outside Saddam's former power base of Tikrit.
Only a few people attended the funeral, which took place after his body arrived at 4am on Sunday morning.
Iraqi government officials had initially wanted to bury Saddam in secret in an unmarked grave to prevent the burial site from becoming a place of pilgrimage.
But they relented after negotiations between the government, US officials and a delegation that included the governor of Salahuddin Province and the head of Saddam Hussein's Albu-Nassir clan.
