Manama: Kuwait's Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad landed in Baghdad on Thursday morning in his first visit to Iraq in 22 years.

The Emir is the only Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leader to head his country's delegation to the 23rd Arab summit in the Iraqi capital.

The president of the Comoros was the first leader to arrive, three days ahead of the summit. He was followed by the president of the Libyan Transitional Council, the president of Tunisia, the Palestinian leader, the president of Somalia and the president of Sudan.

However, Iraqi officials expect more leaders to reach the capital before the summit convenes.

Baghdad presented invitations to all Arab leaders, except Syria whose Arab League membership was suspended in November.

The situation in Syria is expected to dominate the debates of the summit that has a nine-point agenda.
