Iraq to buy at least 50,000 tonnes of wheat before year ends
Iraq's state grain board on Sunday issued a new tender to buy a minimum of 50,000 tonnes of wheat from any origin.
Baghdad: Iraq's state grain board on Sunday issued a new tender to buy a minimum of 50,000 tonnes of wheat from any origin.
The bidding deadline is December 17 and bids must be valid up to December 21, the grain board said in a newspaper advertisement. Bids must be accompanied by a bid bond worth 1 per cent of the bid's value.
The volumes in Iraq's wheat tenders are viewed as nominal and the country regularly buys more than originally sought.
Iraq expects to import 2.8 million tonnes of wheat in 2008/09, up 40 per cent from the previous year as domestic production is crippled by a severe drought, the country's Agriculture Ministry said in October.
