Amman: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has fallen ill and is being treated at a Jordan hospital after being flown there from Iraq earlier in the day.
His office said that Talabani has fallen ill due to "continuing hard work over the past few days." There was "no cause for concern" since his health is "completely normal and stable", his office assured on Monday.
His son, Qubad Talabani, denied reports that his father may have suffered a heart attack. "He's absolutely up and about, being able to communicate and eat food," Qubad said.
Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih had told reporters that Talabani's blood pressure had dropped, while another official said he had been having kidney problems.
Talabani was driven to the King Hussein Medical Centre on arrival in Amman. His last public appearance was on Saturday in Sualimaniya, where he was reportedly hospitalised.
