Nearly 1,000 Christian families have fled their homes in Iraq's northern city of Mosul following a wave of violence against them, the provincial governor said.
Mosul: Nearly 1,000 Christian families have fled their homes in Iraq's northern city of Mosul following a wave of violence against them, the provincial governor said.
Provincial governor Duraid Kashmula said the Christains have taken shelter over the past 24 hours in schools and churches on the outskirts of Nineveh province.
At least three homes of Christians were blown up by unidentified attackers in the Sukkar district of Mosul recently.
"The [violence] is the fiercest campaign against the Christians since 2003," Kashmula said on Saturday.
Among those killed over the past 11 days were a doctor, an engineer and a handicapped person, he said.
There were around 800,000 Christians in Iraq at the time of the US-led invasion, a number that has now shrunk by a third after they fled the country.
